Theory Test
- Click the link below to head to the official government website to book your theory test
- You will need your driving license number, email address and payment card
- You can pass your theory test before starting driving lessons, however it is only valid for 2 years- so make sure to have some practical driving lessons planned as you don’t want it to expire before you have a chance to complete your practical test
- There are 2 parts to the theory test- multiple choice questions and hazard perception videos
- There are lots of apps and resources to help you practice. The questions are based on the following books: Highway Code, Know your Road Signs and Driving-Essential Skills. We would definitely recommend practicing for the hazard perception part of the test too. The Safe Driving for Life website has some options for practicing and purchasing the books.

Practical Test

- Make sure you have agreed with your instructor when you are ready to book your test
- You need to have passed your theory test already (there are some exceptions outlined on the .gov website)
- You can enter your instructors PRN (personal reference number) if you want to, it will prevent you booking your test when your instructor is unavailable- AB Driving Students check the practical test unavailability calendar to find out your instructors availability (under resources on the app)
- Get practicing! Make sure to be as prepared as possible for your driving test. We recommend passing a mock test before going in for the real thing- if you are interested in a mock test get in touch.
